President's Report There are a number of items below that
residents should find interesting. The Malton Road seniors housing
development, now approved, is continuing to generate a lot of interest
in the community. Residents are unhappy with the way the over 55
units are being marketed.
We have included an article from Beecroft Uniting Church in this issue.
The eNews is intended to provide a service to our community, so if other
groups, whether church, youth or sporting groups wish to advertise
their activities, they are welcome to approach the Trust for
publication. I want to specifically reach out to our residents who are
now part of the Parramatta City Council area. It is easy to forget
that a substantial percentage of our readers live south of the M2.

6 - 8 Malton Road Beecroft Seniors Development The
Seniors Housing development has now been approved in the Land and
Environment Court. The Court had to be satisfied that a motorised
wheelchair could reasonably access the bus stop in Wongala Avenue.
Residents worked collaboratively with Hornsby Council in clarifying the
interpretation of the allowable footpath grades set out in the relevant
State planning legislation. Taking this development to Court ended up
benefiting Hornsby Council as the Court’s determination provided Council
with a clearer interpretation of how the legislation applies. The
approval requires the applicant to upgrade the existing footpath in
Sutherland Road and Wongala Crescent.
The Trust is aware that there is a strong demand for Seniors Housing in
our suburbs, as many retirees are seeking alternate accommodation.
However it is puzzling that the real estate agent marketing the complex
does not appear to be targeting the key market. Legislation requires
that prospective purchasers must either be over 55 years old or have a
recognised disability. Numerous residents consider it to be a matter of
misleading advertising and have expressed this view to the selling
agent. Damien Tudehope, our Member for Epping, has been requested
to investigate the matter.
Reminder - Picnic for Trees - Sunday 29th July 2018 at the Beecroft Village Green – 11.30am to 1.30pm As
in previous years there will be a focus on greening our environment
with family in mind. We’ll fire up the BBQ and provide a sausage
sizzle. There will be various guest speakers including Graham and Linda
Ross from the Garden Clinic. Local community groups participating
include Save Beecroft Cheltenham Alliance, Rotary, the Beecroft and
District Garden Club, Byles Creek Valley Union and Beards On.
Hornsby Council is supplying more Lilly Pillies plus another advanced
native tree. They are also digging the holes for us. All we have
to do is fill them back in! We propose to extend the existing row
of Lilly Pillies further along Beecroft Road, eventually creating a
screen for the Village Green.
Bag Free Beecroft 1st Anniversary Celebration The Bag Free Beecroft campaigners celebrated their first anniversary on Saturday 9th June.
As you can see from the photograph it was a celebratory event, including
a delicious homemade birthday cake. In Beecroft shopping centre
people’s behaviour has changed over the past twelve months. The plastic
bag free campaign is working. Of course banning single use plastic
bags is not the end of the problem. We still have a long way to go and
it is dependent upon local communities to drive the change. Whether we
make disposable plastics biodegradable organic products like corn
starch, or recycle end products, we must get serious about how we manage
our plastic pollution.
Computer Classes in Beecroft Computer Buddies
The Beecroft Uniting Church has been running computer classes, Computer
Buddies, for some time now. Please note this group is open to any who
understand computers and want to know more about certain topics or for
students of the Computing for Seniors classes. Cost $10 p.a.
The classes will start again on Tuesday, August 14 at 2 pm in the
Sunshine Room and thereafter every second Tuesday of the month. Thus,
September 11, October 9, November 13 and the final one for the year on
December 11.
Computing for Seniors Classes
As the powers that be are pushing us out of person to person banking,
snail mail paying bills and anything else we are used to doing, it is
important that we learn these new skills. This class will begin weekly
for 8 weeks on Thursday 2nd August and conclude on Thursday 20th September.
Time is 2pm in the Sunshine Room. Cost $25 for the Course.
Open to all, even if you have completed the course previously. A
refresher is always good.

Hornsby Council General Meeting Wednesday night 13th June Last
eNews, reference was made to Hornsby Council’s Business Papers,
recommending that the church funds currently held in a restricted
account should not be touched. The motion was passed. The Trust however
did speak on the matter, requesting that communication remain open
between Council and the Trust as to the future use of this money. The
Mayor offered the Trust a mayoral meeting to discuss the matter.
The Trust will provide an update after the meeting.

eNews has become our main method for disseminating information to the
community. Currently we have over 1040 email addresses, up from 900 two
months ago. We encourage residents who receive the eNews to tell
their neighbours and friends. The eNews letter is available to all
who subscribe. Trust Membership is not a requirement.

are continuing to looking for volunteers who like walking and who may
be able to distribute approximately 100 Bulletins a couple of times per
year, as this is all done by kind members of our community. If you are

The Trust has always had an unwritten policy to assist any resident regardless of their membership status.
